Tennessee
Chapter Best Practices
Maintaining
High Attendance at Meetings
Each year the
Tennesse Chapter conducts an analysis of member and guests
ideal time and location (this year using surveymonkey.com).
In addition, they try to respond to their needs by providing an
evaluation at the end of every meeting asking for feedback and new
ideas for programs. We have also formed a collaboration with Society
for Human Resource Professionals (shrm.org)
in the Middle Tennessee area. This has increased membership and
introduced some new guests/ideas/feedback to the chapter.

Topic: The Cycle of Renewal
Thelma
Kidd began her professional career as a therapist after receiving
her Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW) from the University
of Michigan. For five years she worked with individuals, couples
and families in mental health and family service settings
as well as in private practice.
In 1980
she and a friend began Davis-Kidd Booksellers, a general bookstore
in Nashville, Tennessee. Eventually that store grew into a
superstore with a café. For years Nashvillians have voted
it the city's best bookstore. By 1986 Davis-Kidd stores had
been opened in Memphis and Knoxville, Tennessee and in 1996
another bookstore/cafe was opened in Jackson, Tennessee. The
owners were often recognized for their success in business
and their expertise in marketing. After seventeen years of
managing a company that had come to employ over 200 people,
the successful entrepreneurs sold their business to another
independent bookseller and went on to pursue other ventures.
For Thelma this meant becoming a Life Coach.
Thelma
received her coach training and certification through the
Hudson Institute in Santa Barbara. She works with successful,
high-achieving people who are seeking to live a well-balanced
life and who want to be proactive in creating their life.
She helps people (1) clarify exactly what their vision is
and (2) strategize how to reach their goals. With warmth and
good humor she will walk along with you as you go your own
way, helping you determine what you would like your next steps
to be.
