Philadelphia Chapter Best Practices

1. Holiday Party at a Member's Home - This is a popular event. We began this practice by having it sometime in the beginning of December. After a snowstorm postponed it until the first week of January, we found that we got a much better turnout during that first week of January. Now we always have the holiday party during the first week of January.

2. Summer Retreat at a Member's Home - We have it at a member's home outside of the city in a private, wooded area with a pool during the month of July. We provide a continental breakfast as people are arriving, have a speaker who presents on a subject that revolves around self-care for the career professional, have a wonderful catered lunch, swimming, relaxing and sharing. This past summer we also invited someone to lead us in a beginner yoga session to promote relaxation. This event draws lots of guests who later become members.

3. We have breakfast meetings from 7:45 - 9:00 am in September, November, January, March, and May in a beautiful 52nd floor private club overlooking the city. It is a little expensive, but the location is a great draw and gives our club some "status" in the professional community.

4. We partner with Philadelphia Regional Chapter of SHRM to present the Career Management Forum six times per year. Human resource professionals, students majoring in Human Resources at area colleges, and career management practitioners meet for networking as well as a program with a career management topic presented by one of our ACP Philadelphia Chapter members.

5. We offer programs at our meetings on topics such as Political Savvy, Emotional Intelligence, Internet Resources for the Career Professional, Panel Discussions on How to Publish a Book, etc. and our Program Committee works hard to keep topics fresh and relevant.
